When I was in college I went through a pretty tough time (probably normal for young, emotional girls’ right??) and I needed some serious direction in my life. One Friday night, while over at a friend’s house (thank GOD for those friends!), we decided to write down the things that I wanted in my future and how I hoped my life would look. We decorated 3 different pieces of paper with stickers and colored markers; the first page was titled “near future” the second was “future” and the third was “future, future”. We spent a couple of hours brainstorming and discussing all of my options (really, the options were endless) and at the end of the night we had 3 beautiful masterpieces of hopes, dreams, and aspirations. When I got home that night I put them away and never really thought of them again.
Fast forward 4 years and I am making a huge move to Southern California. As I was packing and unpacking my belongings, I found those pieces of paper that I had poured my heart into and I was in disbelief at what I was reading; every single thing that I had written on those pieces of paper had come true! I don’t know why this worked, maybe it was a coincidence, but my heart was telling me that something much bigger than me had something to do with this. At this point in my life I had never heard of anything like this and so my curiosity was peaked.
Come to find out, what I had created was a vision board. I took my “visions” of my future and put them together (in my case, on decorated paper) and set, unbeknownst to me, these visions in motion. After learning more about this, I learned that the board itself doesn’t impact reality; what changes your life is the process of creating the images—combinations of objects and events that will stick in your subconscious mind and steer your choices toward making the vision real.
So here’s the deal: grab some magazines, scissors, and some glue and start searching for your life’s wishes and direction. Cut out whatever gives you a physical reaction…you may not know why you are drawn to an image but you will know it is for you when you feel it in your gut. Glue those bits, words and images on some paper or poster board and sit back and admire your masterpiece! Once you’re done admiring, stop thinking about it, you have already set those aspirations in motion, let the universe do its job now.
This is a great project for anyone of any age–can you imagine how our kiddos lives would be if they start setting their intentions at a young age??? Have a vision board party with your friends and share your wishes with others! Setting your intentions helps keep you on the path to everything you hope for:).
Here’s what I know for sure: By putting your desires out into the universe, either by writing it down, verbalizing, or visualizing, someone-somewhere hears it and guides your life in the direction to give you all of those things!
Now I know that this phenomenon is the universes way of giving you the life you desire, all you have to do is ask! Sounds too good to be true? Well, ya it kinda does! There’s no real explanation as to why this works and I can’t give you evidence based research to help support this, but all I can tell you is that it absolutely works! Certainly don’t believe me though, try it for yourself and see where life takes you!
Peace & vision boards, nikki
